API 5L X65 pipes have a high minimum tensile strength of 450 MPa, making them stronger than API 5L GR. X60 pipes. These sturdy pipes are cost-effective over the long term due to their durability, reducing the need for frequent replacements. Additionally, heat treatment gives them extra mechanical strength and reduces hardness, making them suitable for drilling operations.
The pipes’ corrosion resistance and ability to perform in high-pressure environments make them ideal for the petroleum, petrochemical, and oil and gas industries. They are commonly used to transport gas, steam, and fluids from offshore sites. API 5L X65 pipes can be hot or cold galvanized with zinc, enhancing their resistance to rust and oxidation. They are particularly suited for sour services due to their high resistance to sulfur stress corrosion. The pipes are available in two specification levels: PSL-1 and PSL-2. PSL-1 pipes do not require impact and non-destructive testing, reflecting differences in requirements and material compositions between the two levels.
