Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) tubing is made from carbon and alloy steel using electric resistance welding. During production, the weld flash is completely removed. The tube is then cold drawn through dies and over mandrels to achieve precise dimensions. To further customize its mechanical properties, improve machinability, and increase toughness, DOM tubing can be heat-treated after the cold drawing process.

Benefits of Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) Tubing

Increased Strength: DOM tubing offers better yield and tensile strength, making it more durable and reliable. It is made with precise wall thickness and exact OD to ID tolerances, ensuring consistency and quality.

Untouched Surface: The DOM process results in a smooth, clean surface free from oxides and scale, with no visible weld seam.

Wide Range of Sizes: DOM tubing is available in a vast variety of sizes and wall thicknesses, making it suitable for many applications.

Minimal Processing: DOM tubing is easy to machine and requires minimal finishing, helping to reduce production costs.

Looking for top-quality Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) tubing?

Our DOM tubing isn’t a type of tubing but a process applied after the tube is made. It involves drawing the tube over a mandrel, which gives it precise dimensions, a smoother surface, and better internal structure. Though often called “seamless,” it’s actually made from electric welded (EW) tubing, but the weld seam becomes nearly invisible after processing.

Made from SAE 1020 or 1026 steel, DOM tubing is known for its strength and high quality. Smaller diameter or thin-wall tubes typically use 1020 steel, while larger sizes over 2″ OD with thicker walls use 1026 steel.

We offer DOM tubing in various sizes and thicknesses, with custom options available to meet your exact needs. Our tubing is always in stock and ready to ship, ensuring you can keep your projects moving fast.

Count on us for high-strength, precision-made DOM tubing at competitive prices, backed by excellent customer service. Choose us for your DOM tubing needs and experience quality that lasts.

Applications of Drawn Over Mandrel Tubing

Thanks to its excellent strength and precision, DOM steel tubing is ideal for use in high-pressure, rotational, and heavy-duty applications, such as:

    • Hydraulic cylinders
    • Motorcycle frames and forks
    • Bearings and bushings
    • Automotive and truck components
    • Race car frames
    • Agricultural equipment (both light and heavy)
    • Recreational vehicles
    • Mining machinery

Its durability and versatility make DOM tubing a top choice in industries that demand reliability under stress.

    FAQs

Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) tubing is a type of cold-drawn mechanical tubing made from 1020/1026 steel. The tubing undergoes a process where flash from welding is removed, followed by drawing to achieve tight outer diameter (OD) and inner diameter (ID) tolerances, providing high weld strength and precision.
Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) Mechanical Tubing is a cold-drawn 1020/1026 electric resistance welded tube. The flash is removed before cold drawing, resulting in extremely tight outer and inner diameter tolerances compared to traditional electric welded tubing.
Mandrel tubing refers to tubes that are bent using a mandrel, a steel rod inserted into the tubing during the bending process. This method prevents the tube from wrinkling or breaking, ensuring smooth, precise bends.
